I first started this publication to keep the words of Hugo Gernsback alive in cyberspace and years
have passed since the inaugural edition appeared on the Web. I've made promises to keep "Forecast" online to
the many readers who have contacted me. HugoGernsback.com is our new home. Back issues
of "Forecast" will be archived here temporarily, so we apologize in
advance for any "navigation" troubles you may experience.
Most of you have undoubtedly noticed a few changes to "Forecast." We have added news
and astronomy feeds as well as a Sci-Fi quiz. Your
feedback on these additions to "Forecast" will help us provide
you with the content and information that brought you here in the first place.
I've often been asked what Hugo would have thought about the marvelous hi-tech gadgets we take for granted.
This is a valid question, but if you think about it humans are a very adaptive species.
Hugo would have no more trouble adapting to today’s technology than we do.
The biggest difference between today's technology at that of the 1900's is the SPEED of the development cycle.
The technological revolution that we've been witness to changes daily and quite dramatically. The Internet we
know today will be radically different a few years from now, and so will the devices we use to connect to our favorite
web sites. WAP (wireless application technology) makes accessing the Internet via cell phone possible. Internet
users having broadband (cable modems, DSL ect.) Internet connections comprise only about 2% of the users. By
2003 most users will have high speed Internet connections.
I hope you enjoy the new "Forecast," and while you are reading think about the technology that brings us
together.
